4/19/2023 0 Comments Book of travels fishing![]() ![]() It'd suck, but I won't be mad at the developers for not bankrupting themselves with a failed project. If that's what's happening the logical thing to do is quit and move on to something else. At some point, though, you have to stop throwing good money after bad. ![]() Whatever the case may be, even if they kill it tomorrow, I'll personally still love it if for no other reason than it's art style and what they were trying to do with it. Given the distinct lack of progress and developer engagement since EA release, one has to wonder if their hearts are still in it. I have a feeling the developers are running into a lot more problems than they expected to for a game that's not been as successful as they expected it to be. I'm not planning on changing my review, but this is about how it is. These patches just don't seem to be doing anything and I'm at the point where i'll just have to give a negative review and maybe change it a decade down the line when you guys have had more practice. Combat is still basically a 50/50 on whether you're even going to be able to hit or if your hits will be counted, Patches and hotfixes for mechanics that have been there since initial release and yet there seem to be no fewer bugs. Originally posted by MikeyjustMikey:I so want to support his game but basically nothing has been added since release. For example: if you had put "fishing update" on the roadmap, we could all now say "Ok, I wish we were further along but at least I see where we are." Instead we're mired in "The Journey Continues." phase of the roadmap, prior to "Prologue Release" (but the game has already been re-branded "Prologue" in 95% of images). You could manage a lot of frustration, I think, by providing a more accurate roadmap. I'll say that a third time: nobody has any idea how to assess how well you're doing, because we have no idea what you're doing, because it seems that you haven't told us. I'll say that again: your own statement of what you would be working on (the roadmap) doesn't seem to have provided an especially accurate or informative representation of what you've been working on (the patches) since none of the patches has checked any boxes on the roadmap. Y'all revised the Roadmap in August 2022 (now visible on the store page) but essentially nothing you've released in patches since then has moved the needle on completion of the roadmap. There's a larger communication issue that may need to be addressed, and which is contributing to frustration. And while it's true that fishing updates were on the list of "looming" updates posted 4 months ago, they got a single cryptic sentence that I have trouble squaring up with the new mechanisms shown in this video. I thought the plan for salvaging the game was to "lead with content" - that's what I heard from you - but what has happened instead is that these announcements have led with talk of content (and features). Originally posted by Devoid: ^thatI share a lot of this frustration. The cold hard truth is that people are not going to be coming back because you made fishing a little more engaging. Invest in promotion once the game is ready, maybe get some hype going, and then you can go hard on the trailers. Save all of the "features" that you've been working on for one big update and roll it out as "Update 0.1" or something along those lines. People like a redemption arc, but if there's no redemption, don't try to start writing a story. I mean that in the nicest way possible, because you're actively damaging your reputation. It's okay if you don't have any of the actual meaty QOL features that you layed out half a year ago (Journey log, Questing, survival, Combat, new death mechanics), but then until you do, just shut up for god's sake. Unless this is just part of a larger update, then I can eat my words, either way, it's a confusing and frustrating way to convey information. It's also really confusing to release videos like this and title them "Fishing update", only for it to be a trailer without a release date, for an update to a mechanic that should probably be the lowest priority on the list of proposed features. It's making your studio, and this game's development feel like the textbook definition of working hard, but not being productive, from a consumer perspective. Every few months it's "In the coming weeks and months", "in the near future", "Soon". ![]()
